Brewing started in 1981 with the brewery located in an industrial estate in Dayton on the outskirts of Norwich. Following numerous problems, most importantly with the water supply, the brewery moved to a disused barn behind the Spread Eagle Inn, Erpingham, Norwich in 1983. Soon after reopening here, the brewery was destroyed by fire but reopened once more within six months. The brewery moved to their current location in 1989 where two cottages have been converted into a brewery and brewery tap.

Brewing started in the old stables beside The Plough Inn in April 1980. A steady expansion resulted in a new larger brewplant in 1992 as a result of the purchase of the name and brands of Sam Powell. Further expansion followed in 1996.

When brewing started in 1983, this brewery was known as Glenny Brewery. In 1987 they moved to an industrial estate on Station Lane, Witney to allow further expansion. The name was changed to Wychwood in 1992. In October 1994 the brewery moved back to their original site, taking a larger portion of the old maltings. Expansion has lead to a 110 barrel brewplant being used. The brewery was taken over in the spring of 2002 by Refresh UK and subsequently Marstons in March 2008.
